Celebrating the Arts and Humanities
Take action in October! All throughout the country this month, individuals, organizations, and communities are celebrating National Arts and Humanities Month. This is the largest annual celebration for the arts and humanities in the nation!
The goal of this monthlong celebration is to raise awareness of the importance of arts and culture in America. It is also a way to “encourage all Americans to explore new facets of the arts and humanities in their lives.”
One of the ways we at Emerson Stage will be celebrating this month is through our first three production of the season. On October 20, we open Cloud Nine, followed by the opening of Paraffin & Nursing on October 27. At the beginning of November, we will also present Robin Hood. These are three exciting shows that will unite the Emerson community while offering the chance to showcase the broad range of talents of our students.
We will also explore a deeper understanding of these productions through a variety of added events including production talk-backs with our student dramaturgs and members of the cast and production team like the one for Cloud Nine that will follow the Thursday, October 20 performance at 8:00 pm and the Cloud Nine Panel Discussion with Dr. Claudia Castañeda and Dr. Cara Moyer-Duncan from Emerson’s Institute for Liberal Arts & Interdisciplinary Studies and Dr. Magda Romanska from the Department of Performing Arts. These experts and scholars will offer a lively exchange of perspectives about the historical and contemporary roles of gender and the parallels between colonial and sexual repression.
To all of those who wish to be active in the sector of the arts and humanities, this month is the perfect opportunity to be hosting discussions or planning live events and performances.
Happy National Arts and Humanities Month!
