Stardate March 31, 2011

Hello my little flower children.

Can you believe it is already the last day in March?  Time is flying by!

I know  you are just dying to see the latest  behind the scenes on Man of La Mancha so away we go!

If you follow Emerson Stage on twitter, you already know that the shop received four boxes of armor, but the part you don’t know is that it’s all vacuform.  It still needs to be cut out, sanded, painted and assembled.

So it starts like this,

Part of the pile
Part of the second pile.

Then the a few of the  lovely people in the craft room started cutting it out.

Pip with just a few hundred pieces to cut out.
Just keep cutting, Stephanie!

Now we are working on sanding, hole punching and painting.

Then we can assemble all the pieces with those cute little silver paper fasteners, aka brads,  and just a smattering of glue.

I bet you can’t wait to see the finished product!  I guess you’ll just have to go see Man of La Mancha now won’t you?

On  the other side of the glass  Laurie is working on the costumes for Don Q, Sancho and Aldonza.  Today she has been working on hand smocking the sleeves for Don Q’s shirt.  It goes a little something like this:

Preparing the area, every 1/2" there's a pencil dot. The area is 4" wide by 52" long.
Then hand basted in rows. now it awaits the hand stitched tucks to create the smocking detail.

Go ahead, be amazed.  It’s pretty intense.

These are just some of the details going into Man of La Mancha.
Hugs, Kisses and Band Aids for your papercuts!
