Random Acts of Culture
By Christine Bernard
Today at noon, some of the Emerson Stage summer staff members (Tyler, Jenna, Matt, and I) had the pleasure to take part in the Boston Arts flash mob!
For about 6 minutes, dancers, singers, and drummers from a broad range of the arts sector in Boston filled the lobby of 75 Arlington Street, home of the Boston Foundation and other businesses, creating an exciting and out of the ordinary lunch break for many.

The purpose behind this event was to welcome the arrival of The Boston Foundation’s new Senior Program Officer for Arts, F. Javier Torres, to the greater Boston arts community. There was also a special guest, Dennis Scholl, Vice President for Arts for the Knight Foundation, who is known for his commitment to “random acts of culture,” just like this flash mob.
This flash mob not only communicated the beauty of spontaneous and unexpected performances but also demonstrated the endless connections that exist across the many different genres of the arts.
This was a fun time many Emersonians would have probably enjoyed!
